We will pick you up from your hotel or campsite at M’hamid El Ghizlane, and we will take you to meet the camel team at the edge of M’hamid. You will be given an introduction about trekking in the desert: how to wear your chech (turban), how to choose a place to camp, how to treat the camels, etc. Then, the trek will begin, heading in the direction of the Elmezouria dunes. After trekking for around some hours, you will reach the dunes and find a suitable place for the tents. This is where you will spend the first night.

After a traditional nomad breakfast, you will continue your trek through the desert. The day will take you first through a few kilometres of flat and sandy terrain, and then onto flat and rocky ground (Named Hammada). After trekking for around 4 hours you will reach the holy Oasis of Oumlaalag. This is where you will spend the second night.

The third day consists of a trek to the start of the Erg Chegaga dunes, which will be visible from a distance. The beginning of the day will be trekking over flat rocky and sandy ground. You will reach the Erg Chegaga dunes in time for the evening and will be able to make the 30-minute climb up the biggest dune to watch the sunset. You will stay overnight here at the start of the dunes in tents.

This is the most challenging day of the trek. An all-day walk through the dunes, reaching to big dune of Erg Elghoul by the end of the day. Walking on dunes is difficult, due both to the undulating terrain and the shifting sands underfoot. It will be a demanding but rewarding day, as you walk accompanied by views of the retreating waves of the dunes and melodies of the desert wind. At the end of the day, you will stay overnight in the dunes in tents.

This is the last day of trekking in the dunes. The trek will start in the morning with an initial 6km of walking through the dunes. You will then reach the salty Lake Iriki (once one of the largest lakes in Africa) and walk over flatter terrain. The dunes will be on your left, and the Jebel Bani Mountains on your right. After crossing the lake, you will spend the night in the Bivouac Les Nomades desert camp, surrounded by the dunes. Here you can enjoy music, food, and a proper shower and bed after your nights in the desert. This will be your final night.

After one last hearty breakfast and a (hopefully) majestic sunrise, you will say goodbye to the camel team. Our guide will be waiting in a 4x4 to take you back to M’hamid, or towards Foum Zguid, as you wish.
